I was driving on the freeway today at about 74MPH using the cruise control. My LR3 began to shutter oddly. Almost as if there was a flat tire or major bumps in the road. For the first 20 seconds I kept thinking the road was really bad but then I crossed a bridge and the shutter did not go away. I hit the brake pedal to start slowing down and the shutter immediately went away. I re engaged the cruise control and it immediately returned. I stopped using the CC for a few min and then tried it again and everything was fine. Very... odd...

Has anyone ever had this happen or heard of this? It feels almost as if the ABS or 4WD is acting up with the CC on.

Any input is appreciated.

I had the same issue from what it sounds like. Land Rover knows about it, & according to my dealer & has no plans to update anything to fix it.

It's some sort of weirdness in the engine tune - I think its pulling timing - It will go away for a time if the ecu is cleared and reloaded with the latest software BUT it will eventually come back. In my case it was made better by running a higher octane fuel. The service manager told me 99% of people don't notice it & I was the 3rd customer to bring the issue up.

There is a TSB for this; LTB00010.
Situation: With the engine at normal operating temperature, a customer may report very slow acceleration from approximately 62 to 75 mph (100 to 120 kph) after steady cruising. A customer may also complain about a low frequency cabin boom type noise and vibration when accelerating in this
speed range.
Action: Should a customer express a concern, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to re-configure the Engine Control Module (ECM) using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS).

Mine was doing this over the summer and I had it fixed. Now it's nice and smooth.

These are two different issues, I've experienced both.

One is with the engine, where it shutters on accelleration at higher speeds. This first appeared when gas was reformulated with increase ethanol blend (~2008?). Search, there are several threads on the subject.

The other issue (and what you may be describing) is possibly related to the brakes and/or emergency parking brake. I've had this happen numerous times in the past. However it has only happened once since the brakes were replaced at around 37K mi. Others have reported it as well, as an intermittent vibration/shudder which becomes very pronounced. It occurs when driving around 70+ mph and clears of you pull over and stop.

I had exactly what Chris listed. Cruising on the highway for extended periods and getting off the gas and back on it would cause a shudder and no acceleration. The dealer performed this update and no symptoms any more.

This sounds like a CV joint to me. But I guess those of you who have had the problem would have known by now if that was the case. To be sure, crawl under your rig and wiggle the CV shafts going to each wheel and verify there is no play in any of them.

I'd make sure it isn't something simple like one of your wheels needing balancing. You could have knocked off a weight or have some dirt/grease/debris on the inside of the wheel causing it to vibrate at certain speeds. I've noticed this several times and that is usually the case.

I'll keep my eye on the TSB, though. That's good info.

So its not just doing it with the CC now.. seems like the problem is getting worse. I do know that its entirely related to the throttle. I can let off the throttle at any speed when the shutter starts and it immediately goes away. I am calling Land Rover USA tomorrow to discuss the issues with my dealer.
