Certain base model diesel Discovery 4s in Europe come with smaller brakes than the ones we get as our only choice here in North America for the LR4, making the fitment of 17 and 18" factory wheels possible without modifications. Lucky them, look at the size of those sidewalls even before upsizing a little.

Correct. The trouble with smaller wheels is that I have a very limited option for tires... here anyways. Most people drive Land cruisers so lot of options for 18" tires.

In the U.S., Jeep Rubicons come with 17" wheels, so there are a plethora of tire choices in that size.

Hell, even the Raptors come with 17" wheels. TONS of choice in that size. 18" has a great selection too. 19" is this no mans land of off-road choice.

The tires are very odd size. 235/70/17 and upgrading to a bigger tires requires suspension modifications because it's a spring suspension. I drive mostly in the city so haven't decided whether I should upgrade the shocks and springs.

As the rigs weigh the same, I wonder how quickly those things burn through the smaller brakes.

I thought it was bad enough on ours.

Oh Mr Surf, why do you say such things ? My lr3 weighs a hell of a lot more than yours (7200-8400 lbs) with E load range 32" tires and I'm still using rotors from about 70,000 miles ago although they are finally due for removal. These are apparently brembo oem replacements that were put on around 50,000 miles. They rusted to be so ugly in the first few months but wow they sure have lasted.

Your brake wear is due to how YOU drive, not the vehicle weight. Even panic stops on mine are spot on as short as I can imagine ever needing with this thing.

I'm actually swapping to the v6 sized rotors for this next phase so that I don't have to use spacers with my 17's unless I choose to do so.
