I'd be very concerned about purchasing something known to be sensitive to overheating with an active coolant leak driven by a teenager or young adult. Teenagers and young adults do very dumb things, speaking from experience.

I've put considerable financial and personal investment into my 2011 LR4. It's currently road worthy and functioning as intended. This other LR4 is one year older (2010) with much higher miles and has a problem that could be major. Under the best of circumstances, it wouldn't be any better than what I have now. Probably doesn't make much sense to have two of the same thing, when I could get a little 4-cylinder to save on gas or a quad-cab pickup with a bed for hauling.

What draws me to the bronze 2010 is the price, which is dirt cheap, and the appearance. It seems to be in excellent condition (at least from the posted pictures). Also, I like the idea of learning to wrench on an LR4 that isn't my main ride. It would be a way to build up confidence without stressing out that I might do something wrong. Plus, if it were to work out, I'd have a backup for when the 2011 was in the shop or went down. I'd still have a ride that I like and meets my needs.

It's one of those situations where I like, but don't love it. It wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't work out. Been holding out for a 2013 Lux HD for the improved timing chain and rear locker. Those are as rare as hen's teeth, but it's the only significant LR4 upgrade over what I have now. I'll probably continue to hold out because it is fun searching for the "holy grail" even if you never come across it.

I think the improved timing chain is urban legend. I know a few guys with 2013s and we have all had to do our tensioners and chains fwiw. And the later model years certainly have the same issues

I too browse classified listing, but my target is a 2016 with the HD package and under 100k miles... Then I see @Tapps33 trying to get his converted to a SCV8 and reconsider, that would be a fun mod on my 2012.

This is when I start getting intrusive thoughts. What would a L405 look like with a steel bumper, tire carrier, and roof rack?

as they say, there is nothing as expensive as a cheap Land Rover, but if the price is too good to pass up and you’re planning to use it as your wrenching rig, I don’t see what’s stopping you! you should record your progress with it and make a YouTube channel with the content, we’d all subscribe!
