The reserve capacity on my Land Rover brand (Interstate) starter battery started to dwindle and after opening the doors 3 times after a long drive the starter was noticeably slow. That was even with a battery tender Jr on it. I need to throw that thing away so I don't keep using it lol. The new battery has 10 CCA and 10 more reserve capacity.

I would like to disable the door sensors so that they are wired closed even with the doors open. That way I won't worry so much when I open the door to get something out and I'm putting a 60A charger on it every day. Seems like there is a better way to care for the battery yet still open the doors if I need to.

I was thinking maybe removing each door latch and then bridge the wires together (assuming there are wires going to them?) like I did with the brake pad sensor. But I may have alignment issues and it might be harder to do than I think. Is there a better way to disable all door sensors except the tailgate and rear hatch?

If you leave your gap tool plugged in it'll display the voltage in the center display. Watch it next time you're out, you should be able to see when it is charging.

Leave the driver’s door closed on the first click, not all the way closed. Then you can open/close every other door without turning on all the ECUs every time.

@mm3846 , I didn’t know that…. and in tracing the electrical circuit, that is obviously not clear as it is a module programming solution.
Thanks for the tip! Of course I need to test this… just the kind of guy I am.

Cheers!

@powershift , I understand the need but from so many perspectives I can’t stand behind this particular solution… the case of safety alone.

I could see a solution where a simple toggle switch is used during those times when parked and the features are not required. Such a “very visible” toggle could be (via a relay) manage power through the fuses…

I initially thought about safety where a case could be the door was open and then I back the door into a tree folding it back, but I've never done that before and I don't even reposition with doors open for that very reason. Then this morning I realized the door latches also work in conjunction with the air suspension and I'm new to that feature so I decided against it. mm3846's solution is clever asf and works perfectly.

Yup, if it’s stupid but it works… it isn’t stupid.

As long as it isn’t raining it works perfectly. But if it’s raining you aren’t in and out of the truck often anyway.
