As it stands the V8 is fine, I think it's great and if I were to just want a stock LR4 that's what I'd get... However, I much prefer the tuned SCV6 over the NA V8. I feel the additional HP & TQ make it much more responsive in low gear and an overall better performer off-road. That's just based on my practical application of it. Though I'd much prefer a SCV8 like the one in my defender v8.

Based on my experience owning each of these engines in the rovers I've had my hierarchy is SCV8>Tuned SCV6>NA V8>SCV6 ....also had a TD6 in a full size, loved it but was the least dependable because that dang def sprayer always getting clogged.

But my opinion is just based on my personal experience using the above and of course not all of them are available in an LR4 unless you do some work. I'm a smooth brained primate anyway and a ********* for continuing to purchase these vehicles.

60k miles in with the upgrades and no issues…

I’m not tracking the thing, so it’s not taking heavy abuse, but the power is there when/if I need it.

Just like everything nowadays that isn’t the top tier spec (SVR,AMG,M series), they are de-tuned for epa efficiency numbers, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of handling more power demands.
I actually hawked the Jag forums for nearly a year before installing mine. Those guys have been modding these since that engine came out and have it dialed in. Glad they did the trial and error hahaha
