I've owned early range rovers and Disco's I and II bit nothing newer. I am looking a LR4'S or even going back to the Disco II.
As far as LR4's, is the 6cyl engine a good choice or are we talking V8 instead?

What are you looking to do with it? The V8 is going to be slightly better for towing/off roading. V8 has more torque/horsepower.

V8 has the 6 speed transmission. All V8's have the 2 speed transfer case. Not all V6's do (it was included in the HD package)

V6 has the 8 speed transmission, slightly better fuel economy, and a lower chance of a timing chain tensioner failure. The maintenance on the V6 can be more expensive when the supercharger needs to be removed.

and there is the age question.
In fact, I too had this same debate. The outcome surprises me. Truly, the v6 has not disappointed me yet. And I don’t have to deal with the aging v8 maintenance issues,
This is not to say I wouldn’t want the v8, but that this vehicle works without it .

In my opinion the hp/tq comparison is a thin argument; the v8 was listed at 375hp/375tq, and the scv6 is 340hp/332/tq. Not that big of a difference on paper, but maybe it feels different in the seat.

With about $2k in bolt-ons the scv6 can be tuned to 450hp/440tq. I don’t think the n/a v8 is tunable, but I could be wrong.

I’m biased to the scv6, but it would for sure have to be an HD package. I think the extra touches of modernity in the 14-16s make it the best of the options, but just my opinion.

I have the velocity AP pulleys & tune for my SCV6 that's rated at 475hp/470tq and I love it. It thrives off-road in low gear going up inclines... Especially with all the weight I have on it. Gas hog though.

What could go wrong? lol
60k miles in with the upgrades and no issues…

I’m not tracking the thing, so it’s not taking heavy abuse, but the power is there when/if I need it.

Just like everything nowadays that isn’t the top tier spec (SVR,AMG,M series), they are de-tuned for epa efficiency numbers, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of handling more power demands.
