The acronym for Volkswagen Audi Group (V A G) was censored, hehe. Agree that dieselgate was a real shame, I am also a big diesel fan.

What the...! Seriously? I didn't know V A G was a naughty word, like s c r e w (the forum censors both).

Sure would be nice if the sysadmin here would FIX THE FILTER and not blindly accept the XenForo defaults.

Yeah, I drove diesels for years, and made my own biodiesel. Might still be doing that if I could get a good LR diesel.

I was reviewing the Statements on the Timing Chain guide Replacement and I believe I have the same issue in my RRS 4.2 . I would really like to thank everyone for being so kind to everyone else , it's such a good feeling to be in the company of like minded individuals. I would also like to express to everyone who is experiencing this issue as I feel the "frustration " of the fault as well . I am very pleased to see today the list of tools and parts as well as the quoted prices as I have heard in the past a terrifying fauls price of $15,000 . I would never sell my baby so I was concerned.
I am a quadruple Licensed Mechanic with extensive training in contamination control . So in the near future I hope I can help some people out with maybe a photographic tear down , contamination control steps and hopefully a top tier Replacement of parts and functionality test!! I'm just trying to do my small part in this community, I hope it goes well , if it does I hope I can post a link to a large collection of photos before , during and assembling .Thank you for your information and for taking the time to read.

Tyler, I have a 2011 RR and I took it to a dealership as well. Unfortunately, they were not as reputable as yours. The engine light kept coming on even after several trips to the dealership for repairs and about $2,000 out of my pocket. Finally, the noise you mentioned appeared, the engine light still continued to come on ,and finally it quit running altogether, and I took it back to the dealership. They informed me that it was the timing gears and chain that needed to be replaced, as well, at a cost of around $9,000.00 of which I would have to pay. I was unable to come up with the estimate amount and sought help elsewhere. I did some research and found out that this was a problem identified by Land Rover in 2015. A bulletin was issued by them at that time addressing the problem and how the dealerships were to manage the repairs. My dealership withheld this information from me. I eventually spend over $10,000 on the vehicle which should have been repaired by the dealership at NO cost to me. Just a bit of information. Thanks for the info as well

A Technical Bulletin doesn't cover repair costs.
A recall does.
The timing chain bulletin would not have paid for the repairs.

Thank you for that clarification. So what good is it? They admit the parts are faulty but LR isn't going to fix it. The $4k cost for the repair isn't even split. I checked for recalls and it had none.

The TSB is a guide for the technicians. Not all vehicles need timing chains.
If you had an extended warranty, the repair would be covered.

There was a class action lawsuit against JLR, for the timing chain issues. Basically amounted to $200 for the vehicle's owner.
