Ok - this is my first post! Long time reader, first-time poster!

I'll post better pics as I get more experience, but here's one of our 2012 LR4 with Yakima 3-person RTT. Got it a few years ago on sale at REI and been very happy. More pics to follow.

OK- A tent?..what tent? Great pic and extremely well played for a first post! Not even going to attempt to top it- unless you might consider an offer for that plate??
Seriously- I just purchased my 2016 'Landmark' w/HD Pack off of lease w 12k miles on it and about to start making it 'mine'. Btw, I took a hard pass on the D5 and so far I have no interest in a new Defender.
Good if you could share more on your RTT and your roof rack. And are those 'Nitto Ridge Grapplers' on 20's?..or?..and thoughts? Thanks!

Hi there - I had to LOL when I got the plate - go figure. I think there were other variations on LR4 also available, so if you don't mind the extra fee it might be worth trying a few combinations.

The RTT is from Yakima, and it is their 3 person version. They have a smaller 2 person, but honestly looked like 1.5 person. This size is great for my wife and me. It was on sale at the time for about $1000, and most others from Tepui and the like were in the $1,400 range at the time. If you buy from REI you can return for any reason within 1 year. We obviously kept it, but if you aren't sure you will be using it that might be a safe bet.

Our first trip was to Carlsbad State Beach South - just a quick one night stay to learn to use the tent and literally backed up about 50 yards from the edge of the cliff. Was super easy (flip it open and pull down the ladder). That night it POURED rain, with the wind coming right off the ocean. We were 100% dry, and no rain infiltration, so I figured if we stayed dry in that weather it would be just fine for anything else we would be doing! We use it about 6-7 times a year, and last summer went to Moab and Durango, CO with it. Lots of high speed highway and rough offroad - never any issues with flopping around or coming loose.

Highly recommend the RTT idea since it is up off the ground (wife loves that) and super easy to open/close. The tents that offer the zip-on area around the bottom of the tent and surrounding the ladder would be a nice upgrade. Room to dress/change clothes while standing up, taking off shoes, etc. If your budget supports it I would go that route.

The rack is a FrontRunner Outfitters. I bought the 3/4 rack first, which is in the photo, but have since upgraded to the full rack. The tent basically covers most of the 3/4 rack, not leaving room for crates or jerry cans. I actually have the 3/4 rack sides and wind fairing if anyone is interested in purchasing. FrontRunner will sell the cross bars separately, so might be a little less expensive to buy part of if "used" if you aren't sure how much you want to spend on a rack. PM me for more details if you think you might be interested in buying these.

There are a number of good racks, but I ended up with FrontRunner because I liked the modularity of it. I don't know about you, but when I see 10 different bumpers or whatever for Jeeps it hurts to see only 1 or 2 options for LR. Frontrunner has lots of add-on pieces, and it seems like their line continues to grow. Once you have their rack system it doesn't matter what vehicle you have, so I like that! As I said, you can add pieces as needed, or as your rig budget allows, and continue to grow it's usefulness. I'll share some more pics of the current rack configuration in the accessories thread.
