Need some experienced feedback regarding the K&N filter for LR3. I have heard horror stories of the K&N ruining the mass airflow sensor due to the oil from the filter. Even if it doesn't screw with the airflow sensor, does it actually make any difference?

I recently asked a trusted expert in oiled air filters this question and his answer was that the K&N brand filter comes with too much oil on it right out of the box and people usually apply even more when they clean it. The oil will damage the sensor. So, his advise to me was to either use a filter that doesn't come way over oiled (Airaid) and make sure not to juice it up when cleaning.

I have used a K&N for years on the LR3 with zero problem. In fact, I have used K&N on all my cars for a couple of decades now wiht zero problem. What convinced me to use them was my wet/dry vac years ago. I had to replace the normal paper filter on my vac. It was almost new, but I ripped it. I bought a really good replacement cloth filter because that is all they had in stock. I was absolutely shocked at how much more powerful the vac was with the good quality cloth filter.

Likley not to the same degree with the LR3, as the filter that is used is of good quality. . .but it still seems to apply to some degree.

K&N is extremely easy to use, and use correctly. Pretty hard to mess it up. Maybe inexperienced guys show boating at the local power wash applying way to much oil, then driving immediatly. . . Can't see how it would happen if you follow the really simple three steps.

I think it depends on where you use it and how often you wheel with a group. If you are in a dusty area like pretty much all of the southwest, I would not do it. If you regularly follow in a line of trucks (raising dust), I would not do it.
