I have the 5.0 NA AJ133. Used block. I had the heads and block deck milled .015 total to flatten them. I also had the cylinders bored .020 over to remove light corrosion.

Question 1- What is the stock head gasket thickness? I assume I should get a thicker gasket to compensate.

Question 2- Does the overbore require a change in the cylinder size opening of the new gasket, or is it close enough to not matter?

Thanks

The cylinder liners can't be bored. Unless the liners are re Nikasiled.
1) Land Rover says maximum allowed warpage is 0.008in. They don't offer thicker head gaskets.
2) Yes.

I have seen and wondered about those head gaskets.

First I need to know if they are necessary.

Rover Range-thanks for the info, though it only partly answers my questions. Does Land Rover's not offering another thickness mean I SHOULDN'T even machine them because it throws everything off or does it just mean they didn't bother.

Sorry, question 2 was actually two questions and yes to both would be conflicting. Yes, it does not matter, or yes, the milling requires a different gasket? Sorry I was not clear with my questions.

I don't know what the liners are made of. Is there a way to tell? If not the material you mentioned, what will happen if machined?

At any rate, the work is done. Do you have a suggestion for proceeding?

Any decent machine shop will know the maximum that they can machine off the head gasket surfaces without causing issues.
Land Rover doesn't recommend machining the block and heads, that you would need thicker head gaskets.

The cylinder liners are Nikasil. If that liner is machined, the Nikasil will have to be replaced. If not redone, the cylinder will be bare aluminum.
