I have heard nothing but excellent reviews for the Cross Climate tires. They are my go-to recommendation for people needing a year-round tire in an area that gets real winters.
Anyone who can use a single, year-round tire probably doesn't experience "real" winters... although your definition of "real" may vary.

I would agree with you. However, most people in the Boston area, for example, don't use winter tires. I'm the only one I know in my office that uses winter tires. And my in-laws and many others in Montreal, until Canada made them mandatory, didn't either.

And by real winters, I don't necessarily mean Buffalo or Quebec City, but making up the criteria on the spot is probably any place where you would not be surprised if the temperatures hit freezing multiple days in a row or had snow on the ground for over a week. That means cold rubber, ice spots, slush, and possibly driving on a couple of inches of snow.

Most people around here just put all seasons on their AWD vehicle and call it a day. Then the first bit of snow shows up and it becomes clear that everyone forgot how to drive in the snow over the previous 9 months. I've only come across one other person in my burb that has studded tires on a vehicle. I have a set for my 240 wagon. Wife's car has Michelin x-ice, TBD on performance.

My plan in the spring is to set my lr4 up to ride on 18s nine months out of the year and put non-studded winter tires on the factory 20s. Where I'm going to store 5 additional wheels is a problem for future me.

All of you inspired me to lookup the details of the Michelin Cross Climates... No, those won't do for me. My LR4 is not a mall crawler and likes the most inclement of weather where sometimes there is a plowed road provided. ;-)

-15 this morning. After the snow dump, freezing rain, snow dump scenario... there are those who don't drive, those that are a nuisance on the road, and those of us able to pull others out of their completely avoidable mishaps if they knew how to drive in this weather and had the proper rubber.

BTW, funny... tirerack does not list these: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...d-winter-tire-for-passenger-cuv-3086507p.html
With the current exchange rate, if I were an American, living close to the north border, wanting a short holiday, I head up north to a Canadian Tire and source real winter tires, lol.

Cheers All!

Remember my last comment - horses for courses, tires are very much the same, given your location and snow I'd be going for winter tires; cross climate have a great reputation but if you live in a snow belt it's best to have winter tires. Dedicated winter tires make a huge difference.
