Alls well that ends well.

By the way, what led you to replacing the power steering pump?
Made the mistake of bringing the car to mavis for brake flush and tire rotation. Seemed like basic tasks. They got that right. But while there, they "complimentary topped off fluids". That was nice, until 2 weeks later I realized there was a ps leak. They filled the ps reservoir with coolant. Caused the pump to leak.

Great news that it’s going again. Happy motoring.

If anybody needs a belt replacement then Daytona is your guy. Fastest belt wrangler in the west.

I had this with an E39 M5, complementary top off was oil in the brake master cylinder reservoir. Took a while to show up. Then a gradual loss of power and the classic brake smell. Pulled off the motorway and the front rotors were a beautiful shade of blue and smoking.

I feel your pain.

For some closure, the car is up and running again.

It goes without saying...double check your diy installs.

My entire problem came down to a slightly improper ps install. Causing the belt to break, damage wiring, fan, coolant hoses, and sensors along the way.
My arrogance caused me to think my ps pump install wasn't the issue; Ended up it was. Lesson learned. Glad to have my car running again.
Gee, that kind of thing has never happened to me! ;)

Nonsense. You’re a terrible home mechanic and must sell the LR immediately at a rock bottom price to me so I have a spare when I bodge something up on mine. ;)

My serpentine /accessory belt (not fan belt) keeps breaking and I can't figure out why.

Backstory: needed to replace my ps pump. First start after replacement, the belt snapped immidiatly at start up. I thought it may be from spraying the front of the engine down with brake cleaner(trying to tidy up). This was also a belt that had 40kiles on it.

Replacment belt 1: started car, idled for 10 minutes, no issue. Turn off and restarted, snapped immidiatly.

Replacement belt 2: snapped immidiatly at startup.

Replacement belt 3: drove the car approximately 100 miles, no issue, mutiple restarts during this time. Started the car this morning, belt snapped immidiatly.

I've verified that the pulleys are all aligned and spinning freely.

The belt I've been using to replace it is Continental Belt # 4060967. All the belts have been the same part. Maybe I should change to another make?

Besides the frustration that I know don't trust the truck since it breaks belts at random, it also causes collateral damage almost every time it breaks. sensors, wires, etc on the front of the engine are all taking a beating and some are breaking.

Any suggestions?? I kind of want to drive it off a cliff at this point. Lol

Hello

i am facing the same issue, it's broken 4 times already, I suspect it's either idler pulley, water pump, and or tensioner. Because those 3 was replaced, but not with original part.
Same story as yours in the beginning even after days and weeks it's OK then broken.

The original size of belt is 6PK2457 meaning 6 PK = 6 ribs, with length 2457 mm. I am thinking to use different belt size 6PK2455 meaning 2mm shorter or 6PK2456 meaning 1mm shorter than original part size.

you may consider the same, just amazon/ebay the belt with size 6PK2455 or 6PK2456
