I just got a check-up on my LR3. I had the techs road test it and they said that the front diff was making "a little" whining. Now, if mine is making a little whining then it is really a little, because the RS Sliders amplifies any noises.

That said, what I want to know is why the front diffs are being changed? The tech today said that other than the noise, it's not a big deal. Meaning it isn't going to be bad for the diff or cause adverse performance. So, have the LR3 diffs out there been changed out due to whining as a means for dealerships to make some money (even as warranty work, individual dealer service departments get paid by LR)?...or is it expected that a whiny diff will become a vibrating diff and that will lead to a locked up diff....?

Thoughts?

My fluid was changed a few months ago (maybe 6) as well as the breather cap TSB. Fluid looked great...

brett...I said my oil looked great, and you concluded that it was on its way out?

I'm not sure I follow your logic.

I have 88,000 on the clock. I don't tow but I do take it off-road about 6 times a year.

Brett, I'm the original owner and it has not gotten worse. It's actually only noticeable above 60 mph or so and it does go away when I let off the gas. The thing is...the entire "sound signature" of my vehicle changed when the RS Sliders were installed. I figured that the condition of the fluid is the best indicator. It was in great shape. Good color and consistency and no metal flakes.

...and I am like you; I'd rather pay my $250 deductible now than $3500 later. That's the approach I'm going to take, but I'm going to wait until as close to 100k miles as I can.
