Oh, well --

Turns out that the LR3 is not attractive to this company. It's a good company that covered two Audis for me (and their present owners), a friend's Audi, a couple of my father's keeper cars, an employee here, and some others.

Still, my contact said no on the LR3 - its loss rate is so high that he considers it an "exotic" for costing and the price would be outrageous compared to the normal $3000 range I guessed based upon the classification chart.

On the other hand, this policy is available for other cars, including German marques, for ranges of $1000 to $3000 ish for 100,000 total miles and 4 or 5 years from purchase bumper-to-bumper-type exclusionary coverage (the best kind). Let me know if I might help with other cars, I guess. Sorry this LR3 hint turned out to be nothing useful to us.

Hello. Just called the dealer I bought my LR3 from (Walnut Creek) and she gave me this quote. Probably can negotiate a few dollars lower.

LR - they will accept up to 36,000 miles
7 years/60,000 - $5144 - $200 ded
7 years/75,000 - $5778 - $200 ded
* warranty will start at the end of original warranty

APCO Total Care - no concierge like LR
$250 / $500 deductible
5 years/75,000 miles - $5060 / $4137
5 years/100,000 - $7063 / $5596
* warranty will start the day you buy extension

Hope this helps.

Yes it's way too high. I've owned a good number of cars in my lifetime and never once bought a warranty. I love my LR3 but had some issues with it just like the rest of you. My concern is that it has a lot of computerized equipment specially the air suspension. I've had to bring my truck twice for suspension problems. I don't know what to do. Should I get one or just take the chance. I have a little over 31,000 miles and truck runs excellent.

Ah - let's try "Bruce M" from the AudiWorld forum, an indy dealer and warranty seller who gives good deals there. I'll email him for coverage info and report back to you soon.

Here's what Bruce said:

"I have 17 Rover guys under plan, and the claims are through the roof. Unreal how you could own one without a warranty. Yes, exclusionaries are available from 2/24K to 5/50K. Best rates, especially on the longer plans, are when car is under 50K miles at start of warranty, although it can be up to 75K to qualify. For under 50K miles, figure (ballpark) $2800 for 2/24K to $3800 for 5/50K, with pricing in between for the other plans (3/36K, 4/48K)."

Interpreting: exclusionary is coverage for all but certain excluded listed items. Inclusionary is listed items only covered, you never want that type. 5 yrs starts with purchase of contract, 50K additional miles is what he means, I believe.

Let me know if anyone wants more information from him.

mustbeaudi,

First, thanks for all your work on this. I know everyone on the forum greatly appreciates it.

Second - any chance you can find out what sort of Rovers he is supporting today? I'm just floored that the LR3 is getting such a bad rap - we have really had very few issues with our LR3. On par, or better, than the other European cars we have owned. So I'm wondering if he has mainly D2s or D3s or RR or RRS.

Third - those prices seem pretty good (IMHO).

Thanks,
Rich

The high cost and "exotic" classificaiton reflect the actuarial odds for high claims, it's not just random. A Taurus owner gets 5 new years, 100,000 total miles of coverage from Gold Key for $1300-1400 (10% more for 7 total years). An Audi costs twice the Ford. The Rover - they pass on Rovers based upon predicted and historical cost of claims relative to premiums collected. Whichever type Bruce's company has on contract, it's the same story. Rovers are costly to fix when they break, and they're not know for quality even if your experience beneficially differs.

yes thank you very much for your help mustbeaudi!

How can we get a hold of BruceM? I'll go back in this thread and maybe I'll find my answer to the question. Again, appreciate your help!
