Awesome off road

I cant believe where this truck will go with stock tires in deep mud. I thought I was stuck for sure today after going down a steep hill with many ruts not really by choice gravity took over. I knew I had to get back up... every light was on but she held a straight line and made it back up with no problems. The bad news is I need to clean the garage tomorrow!!

Yeah...and wait until you see what it can do with legit tires! What do you mean about the lights being on?

These lights on the dash keep flickering off and on seemed to conincide with the tires spinning.

Oh...sounds like yoru traction control and/or stability control. Just keep your foot steady on the throttle (you can even back out a bit depending on your speed) and let it work.

No....but there is a physical inhibit button.

DSC mode default is always on. Any time you change TR modes, it will go back to default. For most off road applications where you're in Low Range, you'll be better off switching DSC off. In Rock Crawl and Mud/Ruts, you should have DSC off for sure. Leave it on if you're in Grass/Gravel/Snow and in High Range though.

I asked about this at a dealer event this summer. One of the LR guys, who seemed to know his stuff, said that the amount of DSC response is tailored to the program you have selected. In sand, for example, it will let you slide and spin A LOT (as I have found out).

Hi yrbender, until you have a more experienced understanding of how all the electronic terrain assistance works, just set the terrain response to the setting that best suits your needs and let the LR3 do it’s own thing.

While diesel powered 4x4s are normally better for off road use, some of the settings on the LR3 actually vary the response of the accelerator pedal on the petrol versions of the LR3s to assist in the control of the LR3 while off road and you need to get use to these sorts of features to be able to get the best performance while off road.

The one feature that you should learn how to use as a first requirement is how to use the variable speed controls while in hill decent.

Easiest way to do this is to find a nice steep road in your area and practice going down it while using your cruise controls to vary the speed. This can make a huge difference to your off road down hill runs, up hill driving is pretty well looked after automatically by the LR3, as you would have probably already discovered.

Basicly if you are dooing any challenging off road hill climb ect I have notice a significant difference turning the dsc off. I just turn it off when I go into LOW then I don't forget.
