@itsaguything - I didn't answer your earlier question. This was from a dealer. I had two LR dealers give an estimate and asked two independents. One independent said he could do timing chains, then read the tech sheets on how to do the job and backed out. 2nd independent took 3.5 weeks to get me an estimate (just for timing chains) and was a smidge higher than the one dealer. At that point there was no benefit of going independent and the more I talked with him, the more I questioned his ability to do the job.
Knowing what I know now, I'm glad I took it to a dealer.

Also, getting our heated windshield back! Yeah! Cracked original 1.5 years ago and at that time the heated ones were out of stock and on back order everywhere in the US. Put in a non JLR, unheated temporarily. I had them check on these too, and they can now get one in a couple days. This is basically no cost as it will be an insurance claim.
For your windshield, when a non-heating element windshield was installed did you get a code? I'd like to remove mine, haven't needed it yet in over a year lol. The lines bother so seeing clearly would be sweet!

@powershift - I don't have the non JLR part number. I might possibly be able to dig it up.

Here is a non-heated JLR part number: LR051567

I asked them to put it in the box and in the back of the LR4 if they can take it off without cracking. I'd be happy to sell it to you if they are successful!

@TimVZ , glad you're getting things sorted.
FWIW, in Canada, the rebuilt engine for my LR2 was sourced and installed at the Jaguar/Land Rover dealer. It came with a 1 year parts and labour warranty. And plenty of good will on other things that needed doing.

Sorry man. Since you are in Iowa, you could reach out to the Lost Cause Ranch guy on youtube... He may be interested since you are close by.

I was under the impression that the SC V6's outfitted on 2014 and later LR4s did not suffer from timing chain issues?

As I understand it, could do, if oil changes were not frequent enough. Certainly far more rare than the 5.0, prior to the tensioner redesign.

Touch wood, at 180,000km I’m on the original set.

@GunsAndRovers - I was under that impression as well that 2014 and newer didn't have the timing chain issue. Which was why we looked for a 2015/2016. In talking with both Minneapolis and Omaha technicians they indicated that the newer model LR4s have fewer timing chain issues, but they are still prevalent.

They also indicated that the camshaft/crankshaft solenoid / VVT (not 100% what the proper name is on this engine) are frequent causes of running rough again due to not frequent enough oil changes and the oil "clogs" it up.

Along with the engine change I'm having them replace the rear pinion seal (it was leaking about 1/2 quart per year), fluid exchange on transmission, transfer case, front differential, brakes, and power steering.

Yes, these are all essential maintenance items. Its good its getting done.
While you’re in there, pcv valve, rear coolant hoses, change the supercharger fluid.

This is why I was curious about what damage to the heads they showed you with a camera. how did they confirm it was chains vs some of the other timing components mentioned above? did the camera show valve strike marks on the pistons?
