Bad ECM or something else?

Not sure what you mean about "electric auxiliary coolant pump" or "electric thermostat".

Overheating, sounds like you may have air pockets in your cooling system. These trucks are extremely difficult to get all the air out of the block. The internal cooling system is mechanical with rotating water pump and usually there's not enough coolant to circulate, and overheats. The thermostat is a mechanical thermal valve spring in a plastic housing with a temp sensor at/near the inlet pipe.

As for communication, not sure, but it is separate from cooling/overheating issue.

The thermostat is electronically controlled though, it isn't purely mechanical.

Also anyone who isn't vacuum bleeding the cooling system is just asking for more work/problems.

Hmm, didn't know that. Thanks for enlightening me.

I guess I'm just referring to my 5.0 LR4. my thermostat doesn't have any electrical plugs on it. The nearest thing is the temp sensor.

In addition to the mechanically driven coolant pump, the 2015 3.0 LR4 has an electric coolant pump with a dedicated radiator for the supercharger.

Take it to a different mechanic.
On Guam we have limited mechanics familiar with European cars. I have taken the LR4 to two different mechanics. One said it is an engine internal issue. The other mechanic shop has no idea. I don't trust the Land rover dealership.

To my understanding, the electronic thermostat is still primarily a thermomechanical mechanism that, in addition, has a heated wax element that the ECM can use to open the thermostat a bit faster when desired. But, the thermostat will still fully open in response to rising coolant temp and a malfunction in the ECM should not cause overheating.
I agree with your statement, but then why does the t-stat have an electric heat element? I will troubleshoot further. I vacuum filled the coolant, but still have air pockets in the front cross over pipe.

I don't have any clue about the OBD. I'm not familiar with the Autel systems. Have you had it working with this car before? Have you tried a different scanner (even just a cheap one) to see if you can get any reading - rule out a problem with the scanner itself?
Yes, The picture with the Autel scanner is from the mechanic. My scanner works with other cars, but not on LR4.

The electrically assistant T-stats give enhanced performance, but shouldn’t overheat even if the electric heating unit is shot because they still open and close like a regular t-stat. Here is a good explanation: https://www.motor.com/magazine-summary/electrically-assisted-thermostat/

Any decent mechanic can troubleshoot a coolant system whether its a Land Rover or a Chevrolet.
