Hey everyone,

First time poster here. :hello:

I have an '05 LR3 and live out in Los Angeles where it gets really hot. The LAND ROVER letters on my hood have begun to peel and have become discolored. The only way to solve this problem would be to change them. Well, I got a call from my service guy who said that it would cost $250 to change the letters.

Has anyone had their hood letters changed? I don't think that a logo can be classified as a wear and tear item. It's obviously a manufacturer's defective part.

Thanks for all your help!

Are you still under warranty? If you are that seems like a no-brainer to me - they should cover it (unless they can show why you did something to damage it - like using paint remover to clean them  ). Perhaps you should try another dealer.

I'm also in Los Angeles and have a 2005. I had my hood letters replaced under warranty. Only the "Rover" part of "Land Rover" was peeling. "Land" was perfect. Not sure if that made it more obvious that something was defective. Anyway, I took it to Hornburg Jag & Land Rover in Santa Monica and they replaced it without any arguing on my part. Good luck.

Hmmmm...that's interesting. I took it to Hornburg's service place too, the one on WIlcox. I still haven't heard from them. I'm gonna make such a big deal if they don't replace their crappy defective letters.

I take my car to the Hornburg on Olympic in Santa Monica. I always mention this forum and let them know this is a known issue. If you don't succeed at that particular location, try another one. I didn't buy my LR3 at Hornburg and they treat me well.

I went to pick up my car yesterday and noticed a $250 charge for the logo replacement. I quickly started to complain, telling them that I never gave my OK to change the letters if I had to pay. While I was complaining to him, he actually said "let me see if we can have your old letters put back on." He talked to the manager, and it turns out that my service guy is a ***** and made a mistake by not letting me or the cashier know that it was covered by warranty.

So, the moral of the story....complaining can get you places. I didn't have to pay. Good times.

Also, I bought my car from the Anaheim Hills location and have taken my car to service at the Wilcox Hornburg location. They've been good to me so far.

Sheesh - it seems like they tried to pull a fast one. That is too bad - our LR dealer here in Colorado Springs is fantastic. Although our Rover has had more issues than I would like, I've been very pleased with their responsiveness, and they always bend over backwards to help out. Plus, I accepted a long time ago that European cars will always have more issues than other options - but they are always worth it in the end

Should be under warranty, but if not, putting them on yourself if easy. They are pre-contoured and pre-spaced out for the hood. I added them to my rear and you can kinda get a feel for it here: http://blog.nextstepdesigns.com/?p=33

Whoa! How cool is that? That looks really good - seems like it should have come from the factory that way.

Yeah, it occurred to me that this is the only Land Rover that is not boldy badged like all the others, even the Freelander!
