So I bought my wife a 2011 LR4 Lux, in fuji whtie. Great truck. We decided to take a trip in the new ride. I have continental contact 4x4 on the truck. Never had any experience with Conti's before. At mile 317, my wife hit a reflector in the road that a snow plow had pulled up. Complete blowout, flat tire in 30 sec. Changed the tire myself and headed over to the local dealership that was about 10 mi away from where we were staying. I called Conti and they overnighted a new tire at no charge! Said it was part of their "goodwill" contract with customers. Dealership squared everything else away. It took about 5 mi after the new tire was on to get the pressures sensors working again. Now almost to 500mi and everything else is great.

We did the double and just bought an LR4 and an RRS and the first stop was to the tire store to put on new tires. We took our LR4 up to the mountains and with the Conti's it just felt a little loose on the road. The second outing was a lot better and it seems like everyone I know here has had similar experience.

Forgot to say congratulations on the new purchase!

Does anyone actually read this forum? :) It's a moot point anyway ... I took the transfer case down. Kinda glad I did,

We got Nokian all-weather on both cars and the improved handling on icy/snow packed roads was very noticeable.

Who knows what corporate deal was struck between RR and Conti, but you would think that a better all purpose tire would come with a vehicle intended to go off of asphalt!

Great review, thanks! I've had Contis on so many cars and always found them "okay" but not terrible.

As for why LR uses them, I'm assuming most EU built cars strike deals with Conti, they're on Mercs, BMWs etc. etc. Also, all the other tires on this review are pretty much mud/snow, not anything exciting on the meaty category. Someone posted recently a tyre from Norway (I think) and they're expensive but awesome. I'll try and find the brand.

It would be nice though if LR offered a more meaty tire at purchase (like the Norway tires), as an option, or premium when ordered an LR.

But as for stock, I think it's okay... and most people never take their LRs off-road and when "the ladies" test drive LRs they like "quiet" ride, smooth... and unfortunately, that's marketing targeting the buyer(s) and just the way it is.
