Hi all,
posting for the first time here. so be easy on me please in case this issue has been addressed somewhere already (I did search, of course).

So my 2010 D4 L319 has the issue that the info display on the center console continuously displays the Land Rover logo on startup. Nothing else happens. It just stays on.

I took the D4 in to the dealer and they diagnosed that the audio control unit (?) needs replacement (part# LR034285 / 18D806). So that's all fine with me in principle, but the charge on this seems crazy to me. Naturally I am looking for a cheaper alternative in replacing this myself. Used spare parts do not seem to be the issue.

From what I read, however, a replacement unit MAY have to be configured to work with your specific car. But what I also read, is that this relates to the TYPE of LR, RR or JAG (that's where this part has been used in the past) you have. It does not seem to be related to specifically your individual car, but rather whether you are swapping from a D4 to a D4 or from a RR to a RR (similar build year et al).

What I infer from this, is that if I have (example) got a working unit from another D4 L319 and put this in my car (myself) it should just work. It would not work that way, if I got a brand new unit in which case it would first have to be "programmed" to work with my model car.

Question:
Is this even true? I was hoping to buy a used but working unit from a car wreck and just flip it with my broken unit. I can do so myself, however, only if I do not have to program it.

Can anyone here confirm how this really works? Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

Thanks
Andrew

P.S. Apologies for using "noob" terms, if any.

Update FWIW:
I ordered a "like for like" part out of a wreck from B-Parts and replaced the broken head unit (part# LR034285 / 18D806) and it worked without issues and without reprogramming (which was my initial question). I was also in touch with another vendor who sort of confirmed that if you transfer one of these parts between same vehicle types and (e.g. LR Discovery L319) it should work without reprogramming.
