2014 LR4- coolant reservoir keeps loosing coolant, no white smoke, no leaks just add coolant and it slowly drains down.

Vehicle is currently inoperable and vacuum test showed no leaks. I just can't figure out where the coolant is going???

Any help?

You seem to have the same issues as this parallel thread:

If fluid is going down then you have a leak, how long does it take to go down, what's your mileage? Check the normal places, cross overs (front and rear) and water pump to oil cooler. SAS suggested in the other post perhaps invest in a UV light to help track the issue. Did you empty the fluid to do the vacuum test?

Yes we emptied the coolant, I guess what has me confused is that there is no sign of any leak on the ground, and I've put the max amount of coolant in it.

Let me add, I am a dealer, we purchased the LR from another dealer who didnt disclose it wasnt running we had to replace the water pump line and then we did the vacuum test and filled w coolant.

I would do a combustion leak tester on the expansion tank just to rule out the worst. in all honestly I have the same problem right now and haven't gotten around to testing it because I've been away from my LR4. checked water pump and cross overs when I did an intake decarb in December and they were bone dry, slightly scares me but like you said there is no sign of white smoke from the exhaust. Still I would check to make sure the heads are doing their job.

I thought dealers would have a qualified mechanic on staff, or at least on retainer. At any rate, a coolant system most often will only leak under pressure - just filling the reservoir will not tell you anything. And you don’t check for coolant leaks with a vacuum test. With the car inoperable, you would need to vacuum fill the system to try to get rid of any air pockets (not sure that would even be sufficient), then pressure test for leaks. And how did you know that you had to replace the water pump if it wasn’t running?

You should go all through the coolant system replacing the water pump, xovers, tstat, radiator and do a good job.

+1 on the combustion leak test. Mine was losing coolant, had no visible leaks, held pressure, no white smoke from the exhaust... If you can't find coolant puddles in the engine or on the ground, rule out a blown head gasket or cracked head before proceeding with any further diagnostics.

Was it a head gasket/cracked head?
