Sorry to hear about your daughter, all the best to you and your family.

Costco sells batteries at a good price, at least when I replaced ours after 6 years of ownership. It might be worth just replacing it (and going to the bigger model if you don't have it yet) so that you have no surprises when you least need them.

You might want to consider getting a jump start pack too, if you don't have one. Ours stores neatly in the cubby on the driver's side trunk area (where the rear AC is.) We got it from Costco before our battery died and got a chance to try it out when the battery went, and it worked really well (managed to talk my daughter through how to use it over the phone when she was stranded). A worthy $40-ish investment, definitely handier than jumper cables.

About the keyless entry.

I have found that if the key and the cell phone are in the same pocket that the key does not work.
I just discovered the same... I tend to get a lot of beep beeps when trying to lock the car, I just changed the battery in the remote but not sure that has really helped either!

sorry to hear about your daughter, Brian. luckily kids handle this otherwise very nasty disease relatively well with a very high survivability rate. wishing her a speedy recovery!
just a food for thought: some ctek battery chargers have a battery recondition mode where they try to give the battery a slightly higher voltage to invoke a full absorption of charge. may be worth a shot if you own one.
