I have an LR4 (2016) that just recently starting making what I'd describe as a ticking sound when turning. It almost sounds like a spring, if I had to describe it. I've checked the power steering fluid level and that looks fine, although it probably hasn't been changed in a while.

The steering itself feels great, which is normal. Even at a full stop, no issues at all turning left or right completely. It definitely sounds like it's coming from inside and on the steering column. I made a short video, if it helps.

Ignore the louder rubber rubbing sound...that's my hand on the leather steering wheel. lol

If it helps, I can do another video where I wear gloves or something. The sound I'm referring to is the "ticking" sound that's more in the background.

Is this a common or known issue and/or anyone know of what I can look at to possibly correct? At the moment, I'm thinking it's more of an annoyance than a big issue, so let me know if that's also not the case. Thanks!

Probably the clockspring mechanism in the steering wheel. If you search for clockspring in this forum, you should turn up some threads.

Unfortunate if so. LOL

From what I can see from what people have posted, it won't necessarily be a drivability issue. Seems like some had steering controls be intermittent or stop working, but nothing devastating.

In this thread, though, it doesn't sound like mine. This thread shows it as more of a whining sound, where mine is a tick. Maybe it's different stages. https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/lr4-steering-sounds.28733/

If nobody else has any ideas, I'll just keep driving and see how it goes and if any more symptoms come up. I plan on changing the power steering fluid pretty soon here.

Yeah, I honestly couldn’t hear it much i your video. You mentioned a spring noise, which made me think of it. The clockspring noise I’ve heard sounds a bit like a whine or maybe a zipper noise depending on how fast the wheel is turned. Good luck with it - post back if you figure it out.
