Driving my son's 2001 discovery I noticed what sounds like water flowing somewhere inside the vehicle, maybe behind the dash or between the fronts seats. Really strange! Any thoughts on what that is and how to fix it? When we first bought the vehicle last year, and the heater didn't work very well, we took some forum advice and ran the engine with the vehicle parked on a steep hill facing upwards. That worked like a charm and cleared what I assumed was some kind of air lock. Wonder if this water flowing sound is something related.

Also, service engine soon light goes on and off intermittently. Like for a couple of days it was on and now its off. Without doing anything to the vehicle. Thought I'd ask for any thoughts on this also.

Lastly, we've had the 3 amigos happen a few times since we bought it, but that seems to have gone away all by itself. Still happens periodically, like if you have to brake hard or something. But after restarting the engine, the lights stay off. Any thoughts? My thing is the enemy of good is better and so if its not broken, don't try to fix it. But I also want to be safe.

Sorry. This is a 2001 discovery II with about 110,000 miles. Runs really well and provides a very smooth ride. We towed a trailer about 300 miles this weekend moving my daughter in to school. No problems except that weird flowing water sound. And the service engine soon light which went out after restarting about half way thru the trip.

I have recently changed the oil and air filter myself but that's about it.

Water flowing sound behind the dash is cause by the air in the cooling system. Perform the proper bleeding procedure.

How do you properly bleed the cooling system? Last winter we ran the engine while parked on a hill facing upwards and that took care of the diminished heating issue. Is there more to it?

Thank you

Search this forum and you will get a detailed step by step instruction on bleeding the air.

Just to tell you the quick overview, remove the coolant overflow bottle from the car and raise it (with hoses still attached) just enough that the coolant level in the bottle is higher then any hoses in engine bay. Remove bleed screw in the top radiator hose (two different locations depending on year). Let the air, top off the bottle, let the engine run, let the air out if there are more, and so on.
