One of you LR gurus, and I do mean that in a good way, please give me some advice.
I have had my LR3 for about 7 months, it is a 2005 with 31000. not a lot of miles, never been off road.

Have had numerous small pain in the ass issues, ones that really should not be happening, i.e.: water leaks in the front cabin, bad bushings, suspension faults etc. to me these are items that should have been corrected without them having to happen, LR should have had TSB’s on a lot of these and a lot more.

That being said, I am seriously thinking about selling, I am concerned about the potential problems AND EXPENSE when it is out of warranty. I have driven Mercedes for the last 20 years, so I do know how expensive they can be, although I really have not had many issues with the ones I have owned.

Some of you guys that know this product give me a little insight as to serious expensive issues that you have heard about, i.e.: transmissions etc. down the road, say in the 50000 to 100000 mile range…

I know all about the extended warranties, what I don’t know about is a vehicle that is built to be put thru the paces seems to have so many issues. One would think this truck would be better than it is.

Don’t get me wrong I love the LR, just not sure I love it enough.

Please give me a little advice..

I'll give you the same advice that I give people thinking about buying one....if you don't intend to take it offroad, then sell it!

If you keep it and you don't wheel it....you won't like it, and it won't like you.

Just my opinion.

Since your having issues I would trade it in and try another one, you may have just been unlucky. Me and my friends have been through 8 Rover's collectively with nothing more than routine maintenance, off road repairs..... So I would say that you shouldn't have a ton of little issues.... I don't have that many issues and my Range is 11 years old with over 200k on it

I have an '05 and was still working the kinks out until it was through the warranty. Nothing that stranded me, but more than I should have had for a 50K car. That said, I bought the extended warranty, am currently close to 80K and it has been very reliable. Honestly, the only problems I have now are things the dealer screws up when i take it in for scheduled service! LOL

I, however, will be having that same decision when I near 100K. Should I trust that I have all the kinks out and keep it past 100K or sell it for something else. I have friends with BMWs that are rock solid at 150K still.

From your prior posts, it seems like many of the issues that have plagued you (and it sounds like you have had more then your fair share!), have caused some significant distress. If I were you, I'd probably sell it to relieve the stress of worrying about it. I've been there, and have bailed on vehicles - often with regret, but ultimately believing it was the best decision.

I'm only at 42k right now on an 06, so I can't comment on long term reliability, however I'm planning on keeping the truck out of warranty right now; nothing seems available (in terms of warranty) for a reasonable price in Canada, and I'm a bit more philosophical about rolling the dice now; I suspect I'll end up buying a testbook for ~1k and trying to do a bit of work myself should the worst occur...

I'm running rock solid at 200k, every now and then I break something on a trail, but other than that, I'm A OK at over 200k, original engine, original tranny

My '05 has had enough replaced to technically be an '05.5 (or later). Funny thing about it is that I look back and the items I've had replaced I learned about on these and other forums. Reading the posts about other peoples faults or issues only made me scrutinize my own D3 more. I agree with what you're saying, the issues (worn bushes, steering rack, leaks, etc.) shouldn't occur on a $50k vehicle. I think because we took the plunge first (2005) we are the test bed, even though LR put the D3 through its paces. I rarely read a post about an '07 or later D3 with the same troubles I've dealt with. So they are improving with model year age which is expected. I definitely would not own my D3 without a warranty, then again if I had a later model year maybe I wouldn't stress. I went with the Ford ESP extended warranty that was relatively cheap. I thought about getting rid of my D3 like you're considering, but I just couldn't do it - there's not a more capable vehicle available. Period.

All the issues you've listed are the known issues. Heck Yes, its annoying that they exist, and Yes, the dealerships can be terrible to work with as you get them resolved, but those are pretty much the ONLY issues. Get the known issues resolved, and the truck is magnificent. There is no other vehicle on the road as versatile and capable.

I wouldn't ever buy a new model anything until after a few years just because there always seems to be issues. Go for an 07 if you can
