Hey everyone,

I’m joining the forum as I’m seriously considering picking up a 2007 LR3 from an acquaintance, and I wanted to gather as much info as I could before diving in. I’ve already learned a lot from this forum, so I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge here.

The known issues are that it needs a master cylinder, the front blower and radio volume aren’t working, and the sunroof has been leaking. The passenger-side floor is damp, though the main electrical system on that side looks alright visually. Mechanically, things seem pretty solid—there’s a minor oil leak, but it doesn’t appear to be the head gasket. The CV boots and control arm bushings have been replaced fairly recently. After I pointed out these issues, the seller said they would take $1,500.

I guess I’m just wondering if any of these should be major red flags for me. Any info is appreciated!

Thanks, everyone!

Welcome to the group!

There are several threads here that offer excellent insight into things to inspect prior to a purchase - although at $1,500, it's pretty much a well, why the heck not kind of decision.....

I think it depends on how much hands on work you will be doing yourself vs having it done at a shop.
Hands on - it might make a great project - doing the work at a shop can get expensive very quickly.

My experience is with newer models, although some things are likely very similar.

The water on the passenger side floor is most likely the windshield cowl, it's probably warped - look closely at where the seal touches the glass, it's probably pulled away.
This will need a new cowl, easy enough to do and will be a couple hundred $.
It might also be the sunroof drains being plugged and backing up - again a relatively simple task.

Speaking from my experience, and not sure if these issues go back in history to 2007 - but the crossover pipe issue is the first thing I would take a look at, followed closely by the drive train.
Lots of info here and if you go to YouTube, search on my user name txfromwi and take a look at the videos for several common issues.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the quick response.

Well, I am now the owner of a nearly 20-year-old LR3—I ended up going for it. A new battery solved the stereo issue, and I was able to confirm that the water in the floor was from a clogged sunroof drain. So, two items are off the list. The brakes are really squishy but still working overall, so that’s the next thing on my list.
