Roof rails; short or extended - which one?

Which Roof rails should I get?
I will put skis, luggage rack, maybe bicycle rack. do I need the extended one as it is twice as much.

My wife used to have a Discovery II which she loved very much. When we got the LR4, we had the long rails put on mostly for the sake of nostalgia. The long roof rails are more reminiscent of the Discovery. The experience left me thinking that the combination of a heavy load and a large glass roof panel might not be wise. Ultimately, I'm glad I have the long roof rack. When I load it, I'll bias the load to the front so as to keep the weight off the rear portion of the rack beside the glass. Have the dealer do the installation.

We have the short roof rails for a cargo carrier we use, I was disappointed that you have to use Land Rover Cross Bars but it seems to work just fine so far.

According to this thread, found elsewhere in this very same forum, both Yakima and Thule have options for the LR4 roof tracks.

As does prorack. Whispbars are super quiet, same load rating and can be purchased at rack attack.
