My wife used to have a Discovery II which she loved very much. When we got the LR4, we had the long rails put on mostly for the sake of nostalgia. The long roof rails are more reminiscent of the Discovery. This installation did not go smoothly, and you can read about it here.Which Roof rails should I get?
I will put skis, luggage rack, maybe bicycle rack. do I need the extended one as it is twice as much.
According to this thread, found elsewhere in this very same forum, both Yakima and Thule have options for the LR4 roof tracks. We have the short roof rails for a cargo carrier we use, I was disappointed that you have to use Land Rover Cross Bars but it seems to work just fine so far.
