Powerchip vs Superchip

As anyone had experience with the Powerchip or Superchip upgrades. I looking at having one or the other installed in my 98 Disco I, NAS 4.0.

I haven't heard of the Power Chip, I don't think, where did you find it?

Power chip (Australia), Super chip (UK), Uni Chip (S Africa), Perfect Power (S.Africa), etc, etc. They all basically do the same job. What you have to do is go to the various web sites, download the info, and compare it against one another, taking into account the cost of the units, and, any future upgrades you may contemplate. As there are a number of new companies beginning to manufacture computer "upgrades", it's not a bad idea to stick with the popular brand names such as Uni chip who have been around for a while, and sorted out any bugs.

Thanks for the input. I realize no product is ever as good as claimed but some knowledgable LR owners have said the a chip upgrade is worth the $s in the extra response fron an under powered engine.

Unless your rover is turbo/supercharged in some way or another I would shy far far away from any off the shelf chip for your car, or really any car. The price/vs gain ( if any ) is usually extremely minimal.


If you are looking for added performance for the vehicle, personally i'd look at other things such as the exaust, heads, or intakes.


Admittedly I have no experiance whatsoever with chiped' landrovers, but I do with plenty of other high performance cars and the performance effect is mostly placebo.....like when someone installs some splitfire sparkplugs and insist they can tell the car is faster....

let me add that this: off the shelf chips are useful for things such as changing shift points (automatics) and removing top speed limiters.

The performance improvements from chips is dependant upon the brand and type. They do give increased performance as they piggy back the main computer and allow for better fuelling etc, however, the performance increases stated by the manufacturer are usually "stretched" so to speak.
Headers alone are not the answer as your horsepower increase is minimal. If you are referring to a head job, now we're talking!

Whats the fuel consumption like after one of those chips?

None of the major chip companys sate much of an improvement in fuel economy, they are mainly improving the horse power and torque. The nice thing is that from what I read, if you buy a Power Chip for example you will gain about 20 horse power and not loose any mileage, unless you are always driving with your foot in it.
