I had a cat clog up once that was behind a 455CI big block V8 4 barrel. There was a hissing sound from back-pressure in front of the cat.

A bad sensor won't cause that DTC.
Convertor needs to be replaced.
Or, get one of these. They do work.

lol tried it now I’m getting a lean code. It never stops with this POS.

Clear the fuel adaptions after you installed the thing?

On another vehicle I had an exhaust leak. After fixing it I got a CEL lambda code. Reset the computer and I was good.

IDK. I'd have to poke around in the tool and my vehicle doesn't have a battery in it so someone else will need to chime in.

Check for exhaust leaks- these can throw a p0430 code.. I had the exact same issue on my GX470 and it turned out to be a $2 gasket- I almost bought $3k in cats for nothing!

Good Luck,

Mike

I really want to rule out electrical issues too. The code is frustratingly intermittent. It'll pop as pending once and a while and only on some occasions actually trigger a CEL, official status of permanent or intermittent). Other times it'll flip to historic and never trigger a CEL.

The cat was from my old motor which did have a misfire issue. Possible it got fouled just enough to only occasionally trigger a CEL. Tomorrow I'll double check my wiring to see if anything is frayed. Bank 2 sensor 3 is brand new purchased from the dealer a week ago.

Thoughts on swapping the 3rd O2 sensors from one **** to the other? If I still get P0430 then it would have to be sensor or wiring related, bank 2 sensor and wiring detects a fault a bank 1. If I get P0420 it is the catalytic converter or a leak, bank 1 sensor detects a fault in bank 2.
