unhooked the battery over night to let the ECU reset. No change in the driving or starting.

I guess i'm going to throw the old plugs back in and see what happens, since regapping the new ones didn't work. the old plugs were rc12mc4. the new ones are rn11yc4. I'm fairly certain this is what my truck had in it when I bought it, so i'm really confused.

I'll let you all know what happens.

RN11YCC is what the manual calls for.
I usually use Autolite 64's and get them on sale for 75 cents to a dollar.

ok. CEL finally came on today. took it in and found a P0102 code. which points to a bad MAF. guess i fried it. it was the original MAF so, she had a good run.

Thanks everyone for your help and input.

You can do what you want, but if you read in the rave cd, the MAF has NO default strategy.

Once it goes, the engine will not run.

I still contend that if you spray it to death (inside) with MAF cleaner, it may work fine.

You'll have to give the ECU a few drive cycles to remap, tho'

greg,

if the p0102 is not a faulty MAF where should I look next? what would this be pointing to?

Mass or air volume low input --- MAF

Do you have a list of the codes?

Do you have the rave cd?

If not, download the one in my link, then pick your truck -- has codes listed

I can't say your maf is O.K. but they (DI MAFs) are more robust than DII
Most guys clean them in the manner I outlined. (including the (3) that I used -- one of which had over 160k on it)

luck,greg
