Hi Joe77 - Thanks for the feedback, I'm really pleased to hear that the docs will help, there's a ton of great information out there (esp. YouTube) but they don't always answer some of the finer details; I was hoping to fill in some of those details with this thread! Off-course, this forum and the amazing people are also a huge help (and comfort knowing that others have done this procedure). Just plan on taking your time; the 3/4" breaker bar is a huge confidence builder when dealing with the crank pulley bolt.

I did the work in our unheated barn so weather was a factor; I had a few cold days but got really lucky around the end of the year so tried to knuckle down and take advantage of the warmer weather, this didn't make me too popular with the kids though!...

Thanks for putting this thread together @Longtrail, it’s given me the motivation to do the job myself. Did you replace your fuel injectors and cam variations with with new ones or did you reuse your old parts?

Hi @CPalacay - I opted not to replace either the fuel injectors or the cam variators, the engine was (and still is) running very nicely so figured I would skip on these parts. I did do a deep clean on the variators (or as a much as I could without pulling them apart). The injectors I cleaned by leaving then soaking in BG 44K, I also gave then an external cleanup and plan to run some more BG 44K through them via the fuel tank but to be honest I think they're in good working condition. I decided not to do these parts in favor of spending budget on the cooling system (where I replaced everything).

I'm happy to share my parts list if needed. Glad the thread is helping, there are lots of other good threads and YouTube videos; I spent a lot of time getting my head around the process before ever lifting the hood... Reach out if you need help.

Lesson from this weekend! Don't forget when installing new hoses as part of the timing chain job to remove the retaining clips that secure hoses to their respective pipes:

In this case I lost cooling fluid but hopefully got lucky in that we could hear the hose hitting the cooling fan and pulled over about two miles from home (as soon as I heard the noise)! My wife was able to bring me more coolant! I didn't get a low coolant warning immediately and no warning on the engine temperature either... I got her fairly close to home when she started sounding like a Land Cruise or 4Runner (so lots of transmission noise)! I was able to secure the hose properly this time, vacuum check and vacuum fill the cooling system and that loud transmission sounding noise has gone... Any idea what I may have been hearing?

I also have a new fault on the gap tool:

P0526-17 (68) Fan speed sensor circuit - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold

Great! Any ideas? Thanks.

So the metal clip part (black) pops off allowing the clamp to tighten? Glad you heard it before damage was done!

Yep, black part pulls off therefore releasing the spring. Hoping everything is ok, there was a little too much white smoke initially so will check the coolant.

Still trying to figure out the transmission noise.

Thanks Longtrail. I would appreciate you sharing your parts list. I’ve been looking at the Lucky8 kit which looks like it’s all genuine LR parts and the Atlantic British kit which doesn’t really specify. In either case, neither includes all of the ancillary items like the crank bolt or front crankshaft seal.

Happy to send the docs, please PM me with an email address and I'll send you the documents that I have; I didn't go with a kit as I never found them to be exactly what I wanted. I also have a few parts that I never needed if you're interested (they're genuine parts collecting dust at the moment)? The front crank seal (as I needed to buy a new front cover that came with the same seal), I also have one of the chain idler parts as the dealer sent me two of the same parts and told me not to bother sending it back... LMK.
