Touching on what huelsmma said, a basic headphone jack can only output 128mb/sec worth of music. That's basically "radio" quality.
For an audiophile like myself, you have to tap into the USB or ipod connector to get CD and studio quality. Many say well... "why would I care about getting better quality? It sounds fine to me"... because LR packs studio-quality speakers in it's cars.
