I'm so nervous about all the issues I've read. I'm looking at a 2004 SE7 with 110,000 miles. Any advise on what I should ask the seller in terms of specific repairs for this year and model? I'd like low miles on the one I purchase, but I'm wondering if getting one with higher miles indicates major issues could be resolved? Leaks" pumps?

I like the look and feel of the car and the size for our growing family, would like it for weekends with the kids and a few road trips (not everyday) and the price is good. I was also considering a Toyota Land Cruiser but they are hard to find for under 10k or really old for that price. I just don't want to be stuck on the side of the road regretful... I know people love and drive the Disco, what are the true trade offs in terms of repairs? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

2004 is considered one of the best years for the Discovery. also the last year for the D2 model.

it depends on various issues; low miles could be either truck has problems or truck was not driven. high miles could be consider good cause the truck was used.
in any case 2003-04 were good yrs for the disco but their are issues you need to be aware and ask the owner. i was also request from the owner if the was maintain at a dealer this way you can look at all the performed.
from my experience with my disco you should look out for the following

mechanical issues
valve gaskets have them replaced. 2003-04 are known to leak
O2 sensors four sensors
abs modulator shutter valve
front end tie rod bushings
drive shaft front
radiator (known to overheat)

i love my 2003 se disco 97k miles and most of items above i've replaced on my car.
for the exception of the radiator i have repaired and replaced items above. i think as long as you or the previous maintain this truck you will enjoy driving it and having fun with it.

good luck, peter
