Has anyone's "transmission ****" returned?

...describes a problem many had with their '05 and probably '06 rovers in which there would be an annoying lag from when you depressed the accelerator to when the engine/transmission responded.

For me, this was fixed by a new software load specific to this problem. At the time it was a "beta" release which was to be included in future updates. (I think)

When I last took my truck in for service they upgraded all of my software to the latest revs to try to address a random "cruise control not available" issue I was having that I had reported to them twice.

As soon as I picked up the truck I noticed a change in the way it responds. I did not report this because I wanted to make sure the computers had time to adjust to my driving. It has been a couple months and behavior is still poor...

In Normal mode, I have an annoying delay from when I press the pedal to when the engine responds. I have not characterized this enough to say if it only happens at a "slow roll stop" vs. a "full stop." But any time I'm pulling away from a light or intersection I notice it. I'm not slamming down the gas pedal, I'm pressing it for the normal response expected.

If I switch to Sport mode the behavior is better but the delay is still there.

Has anyone else had their performance degrade in a similar fashion after receiving a software update?
I have found that for items like this I have to be very specific when I bring it in to the dealer or it doesn't actually get fixed. They just try something else...

There is a software update to address the "California roll stop" as my dealer refers to it. I had this when I first purchased my truck, but since the update I haven't noticed it's return.

My lurch-effect has NOT returned...but sometimes in Command Shift when I downshift into 1st gear it immediately pops me into 2nd. That started after this fix a few years ago...dealer couldn't replicate.

No performance degrage, but Yes to having the lurch. In fact mine never went away after the trans software reflash. A complaint to the dealer was met with "we already installed the update", even thought I can clearly demonstrate and recreate the problem.

As a side note, wonder if this issue is a contributing factor to premature differential failures?

At 48.5K miles, I am putting together a list of a few issues before the warranty expires, and this will be on the list. Want to be documented that it was reported under warranty in case of future failure.

Same here. About 1.5 years ago, I had the software fix and lag still there. With the price of gas going up back then, I just learned to live with it.

No longer have the ****, but now I too have the lag, bad enough that sometimes it really freaks me out when I'm pulling out into traffic. For a split second it almost feels like I stalled then it finally gets going. Not good.

I have the same issue in my 06. I just figured it was something you had to live with but it grows annoying. I try to depress the accelerator in a sweet spot every stop to give it enough gas that it doesn't do the lurch, but I'm going to have the dealer check it out too as I have my final 46k service due soon before I lose the warranty. JackMac, I'd be interested in seeing your list, though I realize not all the same issues relate to all LR3s.

Mine is still fixed, even after I had them correct the same thing you had-"cruise control not available." In fact, supposedly I have had the transmission upgrade twice, although after the "first" time I noticed no or maybe just a little improvement. It was after my dealer addressed the cruuise control and told me they had also installed a fix for the transmission lurch that I noticed real improvement on the lurch thing. Good luck. Maybe they need to run it again on your truck like I've had to do on my computer sometimes when some files are corrupted on install. Who knows.

Interesting, that is where I am. The initial "California Stop" took care of all of it. Now the **** is still gone but I get the lag. I feel that it is downright dangerous when pulling out around traffic....you want to know the truck will respond when you need it to!

Next time I go in I suppose I'll bring this up again. I'm on extended warranty at this point so SW updates are not free. However, I can remind them that this problem is a result of their last fix...

While the stealership was busy telling me that my vehicle was too EARLY to qualify for the steering wheel/clockspring/airbag recall (and charging me $1000 to fix it), they DID (at my request, and to be nice) re-flash my transmission ECU for "free." The lurch--that never really went away the first time they allegedly fixed it--is now totally gone. Rolling stops do not bring it on and the car accelerates better from standstill (less well from 20-40, though, interestingly).
