The only vehicle in the entire model line-up that could actually, rightfully benefit from and needs diesel engine the most (as well as not to mention the only model in the line-up whose owners have been begging for the diesel motor for years now), gets neglected again and instead the diesel motor is announced in the RR and RRS.

The above despite the fact that the TDV6 has already been in production in LR4/Disco4 on the other side of the planet for a long time now and has been proven already. Only minor testing/tuning for EPA ratings etc would have needed to send that motor our way. So what do they do? They actually spend the R&D dough on testing/tuning the TDV6 for the RR and RRS, the two models whose customers couldn't care less about diesel. Awesome.

Why would they introduce a new engine on a model, the LR4, that is getting the axe in less than 1 year? The upcoming 2016 Discovery replacement for the LR4 will surely get a diesel option in North America, along with the rest of the lineup eventually.

I don't think that you can know who cares about engines. If YOU are not in the market for a Range Rover size, shape, features, then you cannot begin to assume what those potential buyers would "care" about.

I've owned a full size SC and that was fun until I decided the space inside the lr3 was more important. At some point I may decide a LWB full size would be just right but only if available with the TD6 just to make it perfect.

I figure the next Discovery will also be available with TD6 but I do think there should be fewer options, say SC or TD6, just leave out the in between standard gas engine.

I do agree with Umberto and jwest, however let's not forget that Land Rover has introduced a new engine in the LR2 just before getting rid of it so they could have done the same thing with the LR4 and make a killing selling these to all the overlanders (and others - GC diesel buyers for example) for the last year or two of production.

Come on mate, manoftaste has a point here! unfortunately nowadays 90% of Range Rover's market consists of housewives and dbags who barely now how an internal combustion engine works, let alone being aware of the difference between petrol and diesel! IMO the diesel engine would be much more appreciated in the Discovery than in the RR!
