So it is the MAF? Please keep us posted when you get it back. I also now have the intermittent REP warning ('05 V8 with 73K miles) and will be making an appt very soon.

When you say "air flow sensors are melted. . ." are you referring to the MAF? If not what? You don't have a K&N filter do you?-)

I went over there yesterday and found that the car wasn't done yet. It is the MAS sensor, but they were unable to remove it (stuck, melted on, I didn't ask). As a result, I'm getting a whole new catalytic converter. Apparently, those have an 8 year federal warranty (???) and it's all free because the sensor is a part of the converter.

I don't have a K&N filter. ;-)

I have an appt on Friday for the intermittent REP warning.

The feedback from your dealer/service advisor is puzzling. Perhaps they are referring to some other sensor? The Mass Airflow Sensor is under the hood near the air intake, and pops right out for replacement. It is a 5 minute effort to replace. I was planning to DIY the replacement, but decided to have the dealer diagnose first in case there was another cause. Several threads here on the forum, each with different resolutions, although the MAS was the most common item.

It's a little puzzling to me, too. The service report is an odd read, but I think it had to do with an O2 sensor seized in the CAT, not the Mass Air Sensor. From the service report

*Found Mass air sensors and O2 sensort defective. Mass air sensor seized in Cat Convert with "obd" monitor scan computerized engine controls for codes. Reset, road check, blah, blah. Parts replaced: Sensor - LAMBDA, Sensor - Mass A (total $401.75 parts and warranty).

*Tech notes 02 Sensor seized in converter. Replace converter on driver side (covered by converter warranty).

So far, so good. Taking it for a drive tomorrow up to lake affect snow world for the weekend. Winter is not a good time to have nagging issues.
