As you may know, I'm closing in on buying an LR4. Most of the ones I see do not have any roof rails, so I might as well start fresh.
By default, I'll get the extended roof rails and then use the cross bars from my LR3. Done.
However, since I'm starting from scratch, I wanted to see if there are any other racks you guys have found that are particularly nice.
My requirements for a rack are pretty simple. I don't go on major excurtions where I need to put a lot of gear up there,
I would like a bar at the extreme back of the truck. That would make it much easier to throw long boats up there without scraping the roof. I could load from the rear instead of the side.
No more wind noise than the current OEM racks if possible.
I guess that's it.
See, simple.
Currently I have this hitch mounted rack extender I use for long boats, but it's kind of a pain in the butt;

- I use it for a Yakima storage box on some trips that attaches to my cross bars, and
- I regularly throw kayaks, SUPS and canoes up there during the summer. I don't need or want custom kayak/SUP racks. For my purpose, just throwing them upside-down and lashing them down works.
