Anyone know the straight scoop on extended warranties? I have heard a couple different things and different prices from dealers. I am coming up on 20K and was told by one dealer that was a break point in price. Another said it doesn't matter as long as it's not past the original warranty - but the price could go up because of a rise labor costs.

Anyone have any thoughts on if/when to get an extended warranty?

For the Land Rover extended warrantee, there is a price differential based on above or below 15 months/15,000 miles.

I was told the same thing from my dealer this week. Sales person said a couple of hundred $ difference but we didn't go into details at that time..... - Brian

i purchased mine a few months after i bought the vehicle. as far as i can remember, the price started changing after 15,000 miles. you can definetly haggle with the dealer on the price of the extended warranty. i paid about $500 less than their book for mine. I have the 100k mile which is either 5 or 6 years. my deductable is $100 per visit and also includeds road hazard.

Current best offer is $3192 for 100K 72mo w/ $200 deductible. I'm putting a lot of miles on with my family about 400 miles away and frequent business trips. I'm kind of wondering if I should do it now or wait until closer to the end of the warranty. I don't mind spending a couple extra hundred to wait a bit, but if it's going to cost a lot more at 45k miles than at 20k miles, I'll probably bite the bullet now. I tend to own cars for a long time (2 in 22 years) and figure one warranty repair between 50K and 100K will be a break even proposition.

That said, anyone got any opinions of the likelyhood of warranty issues between 50K and 100K. Right now I'm close to 20K with nary an issue (knock on wood)

I was told that I could get the 100k warranty (not sure if its 48 more months or not) with $100 deductible for something like $2900. Also told that it was as, or even more comprehensive than the original warranty. Moreover, I can get it any time before the original warranty expires. I will plan on getting it since it would pay for itself if my currently faulty HDC module went faulty again.
Of course, nothing is in writing, so who knows.
