Hey All. New Land Rover owner here. I picked up a 2008 Land Rover LR3 about 2 months ago and had been enjoying it immensely. About three weeks ago we took a small road trip and as we reached our destination everything electrionic started shutting down and the message Vehicle Fault, System Shutting Down appeared on the central dash screen and everything electronic stopped working. The doors unlocked, the hazard lights came on and couldn't be shut off and Other than that and the fact that the engine still ran, nothing else on the car worked. Once I had shut the car off, it would no longer start. We were visiting my brother and he had one of those car fault readers and hooked it up to the car. The only error listed was something to to with "A/C Transmission", nothing else. He cleared the faults and I was able to start the car. I drove it to where we were staying and the car worked great. I chalked it up to a weird glitch. The next day though it unfortunately did the same thing, but this time the system cycled through shutting down and rebooting non-stop the entire time we drove. Long story short, we took it to a local Land Rover/Jaguar dealer and dropped it off. They replaced the electronic parking brake module and another module and said they had found a fair bit of corrosion on the second module and plugs as well which they cleaned up. I picked it up several days later and about 30 minutes later it did the same thing. Back to the dealer I went. It's been at the dealership for almost 3 weeks now and they have not been able to figure out what the problem is. They said they have found a fair amount of corrosion on many of the connectors which they have been cleaning as they've gone along, but so far no module fails when tests. We got a Car Fax before buying it and the car had an immaculate record and the car itself looks immaculate without a scratch or scuff anywhere. I also spoke with the mechanic and he is fairly confident the car has never been involved with a flooding incident or anything like that.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be that the actual Land Rover service center may be missing? We are at a loss, and are seriously thinking of selling it at a loss if it does get fixed because we can't afford to have this happen twice.

About the only good that's come of all this is the dealership gave me a brand new fully loaded Jaguar XF to drive for the past 3 weeks!

Thought I would post an update for anyone that read this. The car has been at the dealers for almost a month now and they have removed most of the wiring in the car trying to locate the problem and still have had no luck. They currently are pretty sure the main computer/dash instrument panel is bad (there was a ton of corrosion on the wiring, so either way it needed work). It was going to be a $3000-$4000 repair on top of the $2000 they've put into fixing it to this point. To top it off, the air suspension quit working at some point as well in the past month (it was 100% working when we bought the car. It was one of the things we checked), so that was going to need to be repaired as well.

We decided to cut our losses on the vehicle and drove to the dealer today and traded the car in on a 2012 LR4. An awesome vehicle to be sure, but way more than we had originally planned to spend. They gave us a really good deal on the new car and basically charged us nothing for all the work they've done up to this point. The new car still has 25 months left on the Warranty as well which is a big plus. We pick it up Friday and are considering this a learning lesson on being a lot more careful with our vehicle purchases going forward.

Sad news to hear on the LR3 - You will enjoy the '12 as it's a bit more refined.

Wow, was the LR3 located near the ocean? If it was not a flood car, then all I can think of for what you are describing is that the previous owner lived right off the beach somehwhere. I have seen a few highly rusted/corroded RRS's that appeared very welll kept, but all the nooks and crannies and underside were highly rusted or corroded with a mottled white look. They were always from beach towns.

Was the underside clean and rust-free?

Seems strange it would run fine for 5 weeks and then start acting up if it had all these issues. Really sad to hear you had that much of a problem, that sort of thing is what gives the used car market its shady undertone - you just never know when someone is trying to **** off a lemon on you!

Yes, the car actually started out on the east coast in the New York area. About a year ago it somehow made it's way to MN in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. About 6 weeks ago it was traded in the the Ford local dealer about 2 hours north of the Twin cities where I live.

Other than the wiring though, the car was immaculate. There is not a spot of rust anywhere on the car. Not a scratch or scuff on the exterior and the leather interior looked like new.
