My cruise control has stopped working. Usually it is simply a rubber hose that has gone bad. However, I tested the hoses and they all keep a vacuum. The cruise vacuum unit does not seem to keep the vacuum because when I hook it to a battery and hear the engine run, I can blow air in and out all sides of the vacuum. When the motor is not running, I can still blow air in and out of this unit. Is that normal? Does anyone know how the thing works and when it should be holding a vacuum?

Check the switch unit on the brake pedal arm. If it is loose the plunger will extend and open the line.

Slam, sorry but I forgot to check mine for the issues you were having. I am in a Hotel tonight for work and they had free drinks from 5:30 to 5630 for guests, and I got a little drunk.

Don't worry about it. I haven't got to my rover either. I will be working on it all tomorrow. If you get a chance, look at it then. THNX

There is a tiny solenoid inside that closes a valve. When connecting it directly to the battery, put the positive wire on what I would call the outside prong, and the ground on the top prong. You should hear a click inside. You shouldn't be able to blow into it now. Next, you can use a screwdriver or something to ground the inside prong to the top prong making the pump run. Hook up the vacuum line and draw the throttle open partially and remove the screwdriver but leave the +/- wires connected. It should now hold.
