Hi : My wife has a 1998 Discovery with approx 75000 miles on it. The amber check engine light is on. Thought this was an emission reminder service light. I have tried resetting it by resetting the module under the passenger side foot well panel, even removed the module but light stays on. Could this be because the former owner used to run 87 octane in it. The previous owner said the light came on about 3 months ago after 2 years of 87 octane gas. There is no code showing when it is scanned.
Will be doing a combustion and intake cleaning this evening, hopefully that helps.
Have read the shop manual and can find nothing on no codes.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are not getting any codes via the scanner, it may be the emissions light it which case you have to reset it before you remove it, or it will just stay on.

the service engine light is the emission reminder. definitely run two cans of seafoam through the truck. one in a gas tank full of premium and the other in through the intake. do a search on this sight using seafoam as the keyword if you don't know how to put a can through the intake.

And start using 91 plus octane before you carbon up your valves, you will also get better gas mileage and more power.

91 octane

Mike we have used 91 octane since we bought it 2 weeks ago and have done everything, on your list so far except change the antifreeze.
We have found the advice on here to be very helpful.

How is the engine running, do you have a Rave CD for that extra help we sometime need?
Make sure you run a couple cans of SeaFoam, Techtron or 1 can of B&G's 44K over the next few tanks of fuel to help clean out that old carbon build up left over from the 87 octane.

Rave manual

Yes I have downloaded the Rave manual but can't find anything in it about resetting light. May have to drive down to Colorado sometime so you can show me how.
