In Canada, Driver insurance ratings are not affected by a windshield claim. As such, the 3 times I have replaced a windshield, it was with the dealer. All for the mere cost of the deductable.

When mine broke last winter, State Farm covered it for the $100 deductible. The shop I used is where the JLR dealer has their work done (they don't do them in-house apparently), and they used Pilkington, but not LR branded. Pilkington make the LR branded ones. It's been great so far.

Pilkington is the OE supplier. I have had both Pilkington LR branded, and the non LR branded and the only difference is the Land Rover logo. Just make sure your glass shop buys new OEM A pillar clips. You absolutely cannot reuse the old ones.

The glass is also set with a pretty thick bead of the urethane adhesive, so it is putting a slight amount of pressure on the A pillar trim. If it doesn't, then you will get a lot of wind noise.

Thanks @f1racer328 that's actually really helpful. The glass shop was trying to tell me about this distinction and I wasn't entirely grasping the nuances. I was left with the impression that the non-logo glass was a different manufacturer but built to LR specs. From what you are saying it's the same glass from the same manufacturer, minus the LR logo. I'm fine with that.

Well you need to find out who makes the “aftermarket” glass. There are different companies. If Pilkington makes it you’re good. Make sure it’s the one with the heating element too, unless you don’t want it.

I believe Pilkington is considered a very high quality glass manufacturer so I'd echo the sentiment here.

So where EXACTLY does one obtain the Pilkington glass?
i.e. name, address, phone number.

The last time I tried, every "glass shop" in Houston claimed that it was not available in the states.
(Classic Houston - would rather lose business than make even one phone call...)
On that project I ended up with PPG glass that ended up having a visual flaw we did not notice until it was too late - at least it only annoys the passenger, driver can't even see it.

But I do need another windshield and would really like the Pilkington glass.

The local glass shop near me in Montana installed aftermarket Pilkington (heated) LR4 glass in fall 2023.

I was disappointed that the new windshield started to look 'sandblasted' in less than a year, but I doubt OE/Genuine JLR glass would have been any better, and there is not one single JLR dealership in MT.

I called the dealer and they said they didn't do the repairs themselves and recommended a shop that knew what they were doing, and came away with Pilkington to without asking.
