Stuff like this is *exactly* why I do 99.44% of repairs myself, on all our vehicles. Even if I have to buy special tools for a job, in the end it's usually still less expensive, and I'm more confident that the job was done properly. I care about doing it right, they care about doing it fast and maximizing profit.
I've purchased multiple vehicles over the years where I've found repair work from professional shops that was simply done
wrong. One of my favorites was where the shop charged the previous owner full retail/MSRP for a Genuine factory/dealer part, then installed a cheap aftermarket off-brand item (over 3x price difference, several hundred dollars bonus profit for them). Be careful out there.
