There's an electric motor that activates the clutchpack in the locking diff. The ABS-based traction control is very good though, definitely doesn't behave like an open diff vehicle.

All righty then. 2012 newly acquired HSE with full size spare or at least a rather big spare; crawled under and saw only an "air" line going right into the top of the pumpkin; I suppose that could be a speed sensor too; but without an accurate build sheet which I cant seem to find does anyone know whether one needs to see the electronic switching motor on the later models; it would seem to me thats a yes, right? However, it must be limited slip because I experienced that on snow.
If you go into the 4x4 info app on the main screen, you can tell if you have the rear locker or not.

The rear diff is tucked up pretty good on mine so I can't see it but if I recall correctly, it has a lead going into it for the locker. Both center and rear are dynamic and progressively locking via electronics and software algorithms. You can use the vin and an online tool to list the factory options since they list it there.
