Hi all
I’ve hunted high and low for answers before posting and managed to find one post on another forum with zero replies that matches the issues I’m having.

So, the other half has a 2014 Evoque, it’s 9 speed auto with the SD4 lump. She’s had many happy miles so far but last week it failed to start after her shift at work. She drove the usual 45-60 minute run down the motorway in the morning, then 11 hours later, it refused to play ball.

I drove out to see what I could work out with some tools and my diagnostic tackle. I was presented with various errors on the dash.
- Park Brake Fault
- Engine Temperature Indication Fault
- Gearbox Fault
Snap on Solus plugged in, cannot communicate with ECU. Cheapo Bluetooth obd with paid for app on phone, connects and gives fault codes related to ECU being none contactable. Export attached.

The main battery is a couple of months old but was at 12.1v. So, I slipped on the jump leads from my car. Still no joy.
The secondary battery just next to it was dead as a dodo so I disconnected it, and ran jump leads from another battery straight to the cables. Same problem.

I read that bridging the positive and negative battery cables (with the battery out of the loop) effectively used any stored energy and often solved these sort of issues. I’ve tried that also to no avail.

Has anyone had this sort of thing before or have any suggestions?

Video of the problem here:

Hi mate,

Have you had any success on this ? it sounds very similar to issue we've had of late on our 2.0d manual evoque. Garage had it in and found some broken wires in the engine harness, was fine and working as normal for a good week. Now the problem is back, but we've found the car will start when its cold without any issue at all, once its been for a good run and up to temperature that's when it wont want to start again, park brake fault on the dash, aeb fault, engine temp fault, press clutch down and press ignition button and car just shuts down, not even cranking process. You can attempt to start it 50 times to no avail, leave the car for say an hour or so, so the temps back down and it will fire straight up and none of the faults are on the dash. Garage have checked the harness which they replaced and all is fine there, so it seems the problem now lays elsewhere. Just some information for you, that may help you in your quest if you've had no luck, let me know if you've managed a fix :)

Since it’s a manual have you tried push starting it . That would narrow things a little.

I’ve noticed, when the faults come on, when you press the ignition on you can’t hear the fuel pump prime. After taking the relay out today and giving it a good whack, it’s been working absolutely fine. No faults. Ordered a new as this one is clearly sticking when hot. If the problem comes back i know where to look first or work back from the relay to trace the source.
