Was quoted $4k all in from the dealership in the Seattle area to replace the cooling system (front and rear crossover pipes and water pump). Does that sound about right? 2011 LR4 Lux 5.0L with 125,000 miles. Not having overheating problems, but my understanding is the cooling system is the main thing that could lead to catastrophic failure without prior warning. I'm not in a position to expose myself to that level of risk so I want to take care of it even if it isn't an immediate problem.

I was looking at the British Atlantic site the other day at the cooling pipe kits; they were circa $700, I'm guessing but probably add another $250 for the front and rear crossovers and you have $950 in parts, $3K in labor, at say $200/hour gives 15hours... I have no idea, just want to hang some logic out there and see what others say. I have this job in my short term future; the transmission comes first and then I'm planning to do the cooling system in parallel with the timing chains (given I'm in there).

I had it done at Columbia Roving here in Portland for about $1500, so $4k sounds high to me. They did not replace the thermostat, though, since they said it rarely fails and is easily accessible. They did the front and rear crossover pipes and the water pump, a few hoses (there is a design change on one that connects to the water pump I believe). They also filled with DexCool, which is easier to come by. A bit far for you, I realize, but mostly providing that as a reference point. Hopefully there's a reputable independent shop in Seattle that could get you sorted for a similar amount.

A friend had his coolant system done at the dealership, I think in Bellevue, they did a crap job that had to be done over again. I think he used Lamorna in the Seattle area for some work and was happy enough.

That's the one I was quoted by, Bellevue Land Rover. See, this is the reason I check on these boards.

Me trying to do the right thing.
"No good act will go unpunished!"

Called, Lamorna. They seem like regular folks. Probably will go with them.

I think part of it is he had coolant leak, and asked them to sort it. They didn't do the rear crossover, and it still leaked.
