On the topic of load space, I would love to know what these hooks are for (see yellow circle). There's one on each side.

Cool. That's the setup I had in my Volvo V70R (but I also had the dog kennel).

I will likely go with that setup again.

You guys said the flat mat isn't stowable anyway, right? So might as well go with the lip.

You can roll it up, but it still takes a bit of space. You might be able to cram it behind the 3rd row. For me, I generally know when I need to switch configurations when I am at home, so its not a big deal to throw the big matt in the garage, or take out the cargo cover and cargo barrier (but you do have to fold down the 2nd row to get the barrier out.. and you have to take out the two kids car seats to fold the 2nd row down... so its a bit of work, but who cares! I love accessories!

I believe they are hooks for elastic retainers built into the accessory flexible load space protector.

Interesting! It'd really be nice if there were tie-downs on the sides of the load space . . . these little tabs are just teasing me, since they obviously couldn't bear any sort of reasonable load.

When I go to the farmers' market, I use them to hang plastic bags there, so that my nectarines and peaches don't roll all over the trunk.

It will fit behind the third row if you roll it up side to side (standing behind it looking at it as it sits in the truck, side to side rather than front to back). But the black rubber tends to leave marks on my almond plastic back there--need to find or make a bag to stick it in when it's rolled up.

That's good enough. I may get both mats.

I use them to hook my DIY loadspace protector.
