Hi all,

This is my first post and I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to in the manual.

I have a LR4 HSE LUX. For some reason it has the 5 camera set up on it that should only be available with the HSE LUX PLUS. Go figure... Anyway, I will be doing some light to moderate off-roading this weekned as part of a Land Rover event that my dealership is hosting. I looked to make sure I didn't have the matching spare tire that is part of the HD package, but I am still baffled if I have the locking rear diff or not.

When I put the truck in low range and rock crawl mode on the terain select, it shows both diffs on the 4x4 screen. I know the center diff locks automatically but is there a way to lock the rear diff if mine is so equiped? I have found nothing about it in the manual.

Thanks all!

If you have a rear diff lock it will lock when its needed to under load, and partial lock too. You would only get this feature if you ordered it new on the car, assume its yours from new so you wouldnt have it.

Personally, you going off road with a dealer, it wont be anything extreme and will be a good starter for you.

Just go enjoy it and take some photo's for us

Put it in rock crawl again, and try a little left foot braking (i.e. press brake and gas together, its helpful in situations when you need more control when getting over an obstacle, your dealer should explain all this when you go out) and that usually works for me, although the rear locking diff is pretty random sometimes. Your Nav screen will display both diffs although you may and probably don't (because you don't have the full size spare) have the rear locking diff, it'll just display the rear as "unlocked" the whole time.

Thanks for the replies!

I went home last night and put the LR4 in low range and rock-crawl. It locked the center diff as soon as the truck started to moved then unlocked a short time after. The rear diff stayed unlocked the entire time. I will test it this weekend when we are off road and in some slick stuff to see if I can get the rear to lock.

I purchased the truck new; it only had 23 miles on it when we took our first ride in it. I know it doesn't have the matching wheel, but it does have the 5 camera system that should only come on the LUX PLUS. The only difference between my LR4 LUX and the top LR4 LUX PLUS should be the 5 camera deal and the heavy duty package. I didn't pay extra for the 5 camera deal so I was hoping another mistake made it through and I got the locking rear diff also.

The LUX PLUS also includes automatic folding side view mirrors. Does your car have that?

Yes, my LR4 has the automatic folding mirrors. Every time I lock the door they fold in.

I will have to look today to see if there are wires leading to the rear diff. Are there any other sensors back there that might fool me into thinking I have a rear diff lock?

Well then maybe you really did get lucky and got everything in the LUX PLUS package except for the full size spare. I know next to nothing about cars, differential, etc (sorry I'm a girl!), but here's an old post stating to look for the wires/plug above the rear diff to make sure it has the rear locker.

No problem. I can take a look under the LR4 and at least see if there are wires leading to the diff. Some times they put other sensors in the diff like ABS and such, but I'm sure the ABS sensors on this truck are at the wheel and not located in-board at the diff.

Being a girl doesn't automatically mean you know nothing about vehicles. If nothing else, you have to be picking things up on the forums. Trust me, most guys don't know anythign about cars either.

Thanks for the link!
