Will 2003-2005 RR wheels fit on LR4?

As a new LR4 owner, I'm looking for an extra set of wheels for snow tires. I'm also trying to keep the cost reasonable, and haven't seen many sets of LR4 wheels for sale at tolerable prices - I don't really want to pay $1k for wheels and another $1k for snows.

I've found quite a few 2003-2005 vintage Range Rover wheels in the same size (19x8) with an offset 4mm higher, pulling the wheel 4mm inward. Pics attached of the wheels I'm referring to. I found a post mentioning possibly needing early style lug nuts, and someone else needed thin spacers to make them clear the front calipers on an LR3. However I can't find any detailed information on if these 2003-2005 RR wheels will work on the LR4 - and if so, what mods are needed (spacers? nuts? etc?).

Related question - if they do fit, will the early RR wheels accept the LR4 TPMS?

No they won't fit. You need 2006+ RR 7 spoke wheel to be compatible with your current lug nuts. Also I am not sure the earlier versions will clear your caliper without spacers. I have using a set of 2006 7 spoke 19" Range Rover wheels as my winter wheels on my LR3 and LR4.

This is not entirely correct. I have been running 2004 19" 6 spoke RR rims on my 2012 LR4 without any issues for the past two winters. You just need the old style lug nuts for them.

Good to know, I wasn't sure about the fit, only the lug nuts for sure. That's $100 in lug nuts lol. Do you carry some newer style LR4 lug nuts in case you need to use your spare?

I bought 5 rims as a set and mounted matching winters on them. So no need to use different lug nuts during the season.

If load rating matters, technically, only wheels off an LR3 or 4 will meet spec for the 4. This is because of the higher load rating of 940 kgs per the marking shown below on the backside of a 6 spoke 19" wheel off an LR3.

These wheels are factory standard on the 2005 LR3 SE and Made in Italy by the Cromodora company. Each wheel is rated at 940 kg (2,072 pounds) and has an offset of 53 mm positive, (53P or +53).

I mention the 940 kg load rating as that is about the heaviest rating of any Land Rover product. The RRS and RRHSE both have lower ratings. What this means is that while a wheel from a Range Rover may physically fit, it probably does not have the brute strength of the factory spec Land Rover 3 wheel. There is no Land Rover product heavier than the 3, hence the 3 wheel design spec is the heaviest of the bunch.

940kg x 4 = 3760 kg = 8272 lbs.

The seven spoke Range Rover wheels are rated:

925kg x 4 = 3700 kg = 8140 lbs.


The 8140 lbs is still well within the GVWR of 7143 lbs.

I assume what you are saying that all four wheel together add up to over 8,000 pounds which is correct.

I think the reason for the high rating of each wheel is that it is not uncommon for the 3 to be momentarily balancing on two wheels under difficult off road conditions. In those rare cases, one tends to wonder if the numbers are high enough.

What is certain is that one tends to learn why the wheel nuts are so heavy.

You sure the center bore is identical? The lr4 requires a hub centering wheel design and obviously the correct centering bore. Large enough to slip over does not equate to "correct". Too small would however be obviously incompatible.

All the Land/Range Rover wheels I have encountered (2000+) have always had a center bore of 72.6 mm
